Joe and I met on December 28, 2015, at Waldo’s Restaurant in Vero Beach.I was in town for the holidays, visiting my parents and spending a quick weekend at the Vero Beach Hotel. That night, I was heading to Waldo’s to meet up with my lifelong friend, Leigh Anne. I had no idea she had other plans.Earlier that same day, Joe was driving from Orlando to Vero to spend time with friends for the holidays. Somewhere along I-95, he remembered Leigh Anne mentioning a friend named Megan who occasionally came down from Atlanta for Christmas. Curious, he gave her a call.Leigh Anne wasn’t sure if I was still in town. She told Joe she’d check but warned him I might have already gone back home. Joe figured it was probably a long shot, but later that day he asked one more time. Luckily, I had decided to stay one more night. Leigh Anne invited me to meet her at Waldo’s, and I happily said yes—completely unaware that she was playing matchmaker.The bar was packed, the music was loud, and I was standing at the bar when someone tapped me on the shoulder.“Hi, I’m Joe Rumberger.”Caught completely off guard, I looked at him and replied, “Huh? What did you say?”He smiled, repeated, “I’m Joe Rumberger,” and confidently stuck out his hand like he was about to sell me a car.“Uh… hi, I’m Megan,” I answered, slowly shaking his hand, while still looking around for Leigh Anne.Just then, she walked over with a grin and said, “I see you’ve met Joe.”We didn’t know it then but later discovered we both had very different expectations for the evening. I had no idea I was being set up. Joe thought the whole reason I was there was to meet him.Looking back, it’s amazing how many little things had to fall into place for us to meet that night. One extra night in town, one phone call, one friend playing matchmaker… and one unexpected introduction at a crowded bar.Three days later, Joe was back on I-95—this time heading north. But he wasn’t stopping in Orlando. He was on his way to Atlanta to see me…. but that’s a whole other story.

We want everyone to feel comfortable! Our ceremony and reception will be outdoors on a January evening in Florida, so wear something you'd feel great celebrating, laughing, and dancing in. Jackets, ties, and fancy heels are completely optional.Temps at this time of year are typically upper 60s to low 70s, then can cool into the low 60s or upper 50s during the evenings. You may want to bring a light jacket or wrap for later in the evening.Our wedding has a modern garden feel, so if you're looking for inspiration, think fresh colors (peach, sage, blush, coral, cream, blue), florals and greenery, and relaxed style —but there's no color palette to follow. Most importantly, wear whatever makes you feel like your best self.

Dress Code

What's our one request?Laugh loudly, dance often, and celebrate with us. That's why we're throwing this party. What's the vibe?Think modern garden party meets one really great family reunion—with good food, music, and a whole lot of laughter. Is this going to be a formal wedding?Not too formal! We want everyone to look nice, feel comfortable, and have an amazing time. Will there be dancing?We certainly hope so. Whether you're busting out your best moves or just cheering everyone else on, the dance floor will be open all night. What kind of music will be played?A little bit of everything—from classics to today's favorites. If it gets people dancing, it's fair game. What time should I arrive?We recommend arriving 20–30 minutes before the ceremony so you have time to park, grab a seat, and say hello! Where should I park?Parking will be available on-site. Just follow the signs (or our friendly parking attendants). What's the dress color inspiration?If you're looking for inspiration, think sage greens, creams, blush pinks, peaches, coral, and soft French blue. (No pressure—we're just excited to see everyone looking fabulous!) Can I take photos?I’m assuming the paparazzi will be limited at this event. I’m also not too concerned with the tabloids picking up the story. During the ceremony, we'd appreciate everyone being present while our photographer captures the moment, but before and after that portion, snap away! Can I bring a plus one?If your invitation included one, absolutely! Your RSVP will reflect the number of seats reserved in your honor. Will there be an open bar?Absolutely! Beer, wine, signature cocktails, and plenty of non-alcoholic options will be available. Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?Yes! Just let us know when you RSVP so we can plan accordingly. Should I bring cash?Nope! Everything is covered. Just bring yourself and your dancing shoes. Can I bring my children? At your own risk.Just kidding! We love your little ones! Please refer to your invitation or RSVP for the number of seats reserved for your family. What's the dress code?Garden cocktail or dressy casual. Think: sundresses, slacks, and button-downs. Can I wear heels?You absolutely can. Only a small portion of the venue (parking area) requires some limited grass walking - everywhere else is paved. I would be comfortable in heels. Will the ceremony and reception be outdoors? Yes! The ceremony will be held outside under shade, the cocktail hour will take place under the oaks, and the reception area is also outdoors but under a large tent with fans (or heaters if need be). Will there be bugs?It's Florida... so probably a few. But it’s also January, so those Florida bugs should be frozen. Why Vero Beach?It's home to so many of our favorite memories, and we couldn't imagine celebrating anywhere else. What should we do while we're in town?Vero Beach has beautiful beaches, great restaurants, and plenty of spots to relax. Most people have the day off on that following Monday - make a long weekend out of it!
